A notorious criminal, Shahrukh Pathan who is linked to a gang of Sanjeev Jeeva and mafia don Mukhtar Ansari, was gunned down in an encounter with the police in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, officials said on Monday.
He was neutralised in an operation launched by the Meerut Special Task Force.
Pathan had opened fire on the police during the operation, after which the police shot him dead in retaliatory firing, the police said, Times of India reported.
The sharpshooter had over a dozen criminal cases registered against his name. The police recovered three pistols and more than 60 rounds of ammunition from the spot.
The police have launched ‘Operation Langda’ to crack down on the criminals, as per which, the cops shoot them in their legs and take them into custody.
Shahrukh Pathan’s killing took place in the Chhapar police station area in Muzaffarnagar.
In Bulandshahr, a joint team of the Kakod police and the SWAT team clashed with thieves who were attempting to steal a transformer.
In exchange of fire, two criminals – Bhura and Shahabuddin – were injured, while their two associates – Nazim and Guddu – were arrested.
The police recovered weapons, ammunition, a car, a motorcycle, and copper plates from the transformer and tools used to dismantle it.
