Tech billionaire Elon Musk’s first wife and Canadian author, Justine Wilson, has alleged that the Tesla CEO cancelled their daughter’s health insurance a day after she came out as transgender.
Wilson, 54, has spoken about her marriage to the billionaire and their family life in an upcoming documentary titled ‘Musk, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney. Musk did not participate in the project and has criticised it as a “hit piece”.
Meanwhile, the Tesla CEO has denied the allegation, calling it “utterly false”. In a post on X on Sunday, Musk responded to the allegation, saying, “This is utterly false. At no point did I remove Xavier from health insurance.”
According to Wilson’s account in the film, Musk initially asked her to convey a message of support to their daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, after she came out as transgender, saying, “I’ll always love her.” However, Wilson alleged that he cancelled Vivian’s health insurance the following day.
Wilson also described Musk’s reaction to their daughter’s transition, claiming he viewed it as the “death of a child”. She said she challenged that perspective, telling him that Vivian was simply “a child growing up”. Wilson further recalled that the couple had experienced the actual loss of a child in 2002, when their firstborn son, Nevada, died from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
The allegations come amid wider attention surrounding the documentary, following reports that Musk’s former partner Ashley St. Clair discussed rejecting a multimillion-dollar non-disclosure agreement before taking part in the film.
