In this time of race and social media, where relationships also come through filters, Gustak Ishq brings a story that warms the heart like the streets of Old Delhi, simple, true and full of emotions.

story of the film

Nawabuddin Saifuddin Rehman (Vijay Verma) is struggling to save his father’s old printing press. In this journey, he becomes the disciple of Aziz Baig (Naseeruddin Shah), a famous poet who has hidden his identity and settled in another city.

On the other hand, Minnie (Fatima Sana Shaikh) comes as a new light in Nawab’s life, who is a teacher by profession and is very innocent at heart. Stuck between the respect of his teacher and his love, Nawab reaches a point where one decision can change his entire life. The story beautifully captures the fragrance of Old Delhi, the sophistication of Urdu and the warmth of relationships.

film direction

Director Mayur Puri has composed this film like a soft and warm poem. The shots are so beautiful that Old Delhi and Manerkotla become a character in themselves. Brilliant cinematography, set design and excellent sound, all together create an atmosphere that is refreshing even while taking you back in time. The second half of the film becomes a bit long and emotional, but the depth of emotions keeps the viewer engaged.

acting in film

The casting of the film is absolutely perfect. Vijay Verma lives the pain, innocence and confusion of Nawab with complete honesty. Fatima Sana Shaikh proves to be an actress who conveys emotions through her eyes. Seeing Naseeruddin Shah in the role of Aziz Baig, one realizes why he is called an “expert actor”. Sharib Hashmi brings strength and ease to the character of ‘Bhoore’. Rohan Verma emerges with complete naturalness as Jumman.

Music and background score of the film

Hitesh Sonik’s background score makes the film even more heart-touching. Vishal Bhardwaj’s tunes and Gulzar Sahab’s lyrics together become the soul of the film. The songs are as delicate and effective as the soul of the story.

Why watch the movie?

Gustakh Ishq is a film that takes courage to make, because it is not made for trends, but for the heart. Nostalgic, but also refreshing. Slow, but also heart touching. If you look for simplicity in stories and innocence in love, then this film will definitely touch you.
