The BJP’s new national team under party president Nitin Nabin reflects a mix of organisational experience, younger faces, greater women’s representation and regional balance. The 65-member team has an average age of around 50, indicating that the exercise is not an outright shift towards a younger leadership but an attempt to combine experienced organisational hands with a new generation of leaders. Sweeping changes have been made across national secretariesparty wings, and the media and social media teams.
The new team has 12 women, accounting for around 18.5 per cent of its total strength. Vasundhara Raje, D Purandeswari, Rekha Verma, Varshaben Doshi, Bharati Pawar and Madhuchandra Kar have been appointed national vice-presidents, while Smriti Irani has been made a national general secretary. Kavita Patidar, Phangnon Konyak and Sangeeta Yadav are among the national secretaries. Roop Kumari Chaudhary has been appointed president of the BJP Mahila Morcha, while Priti Gandhi has been given responsibility as social media co-convenor.
Uttar Pradesh has a significant presence among women leaders, with Rekha Verma, Smriti Irani and Sangeeta Yadav hailing from the state. Irani has also been assigned responsibility for Uttar Pradesh, setting the stage for an interesting organisational dynamic in the state in the coming months.
6 NEW FACES AMONG 8 GENERAL SECRETARIES
The biggest change at the national general secretary level is the induction of six new faces among the eight members of the team. Smriti Irani, Biplab Deb, Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel, Harish Dwivedi and Sanjay Bhatia have been appointed national general secretaries, while Sunil Bansal and Vinod Tawde have been retained.
The composition signals a generational shift at one of the BJP’s key organisational levels, while retaining two experienced leaders to provide continuity.
CONTINUITY AT THE ORGANISATIONAL LEVEL
At the crucial organisational level, B L Santhosh continues as national general secretary (organisation). Shivprakash has also retained his position as national joint general secretary (organisation), while Saudan Singh returns to the post after serving as a national vice-president.
The appointments indicate that while the party has undertaken a substantial reshuffle, it has retained its core organisational structure at the top.
MAJOR CHANGES AMONG NATIONAL SECRETARIES
The national secretary level has witnessed one of the most extensive changes, with 16 appointments, including 14 new faces. The new entrants include Kavita Patidar, K Surendran, Bhola Singh, Pradeep Verma, Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel, Sandeep Pathak, Sangeeta Yadav, M Venkatesan, Manoj Tigga, Siddharth Shambhu, Swadesh Singh, Mrigank Dev Barman, Rohan Gupta and Jai Prakash.
Phangnon Konyak and Anil Antony have been retained. With 14 of the 16 national secretaries being new faces, the reshuffle points to a clear effort to give greater organisational responsibility to the next generation of leaders.
PIYUSH GOYAL RETURNS AS TREASURER
Piyush Goyal has been appointed national treasurer, marking his return to the key organisational post. The appointment comes while he remains a Union minister, with the implications for his ministerial responsibilities yet to be clear.
Tarun Chugh, meanwhile, has moved from national general secretary to national office in-charge, giving him a role more directly linked to the functioning of the party headquarters and its organisational operations.
ALL 7 MORCHAS GET NEW PRESIDENTS
The BJP has replaced the presidents of all seven of its Morchas, giving a completely new leadership team to the party’s organisational wings. Dr Hemang Joshi has been appointed Yuva Morcha president, Roop Kumari Chaudhary Mahila Morcha president, Amarpal Maurya OBC Morcha president, Bansilal Gurjar Kisan Morcha president, Shivesh Kumar Ram SC Morcha president, Dr Mannalal Rawat ST Morcha president and Kunwar Basit Ali Minority Morcha president.
The changes are aimed at strengthening the party’s outreach among youth, women, farmers, OBCs, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and minority communities.
MEDIA, SOCIAL MEDIA TEAMS ALSO REJIGGED
The BJP has also carried out a significant overhaul of its media and social media teams. Anil Baluni has been retained, while Sanjay Mayukh has been dropped as media co-convenor. Ashish Agarwal, Pradeep Bhandari and Siddharth Yadav have been appointed media co-convenors.
Deepak Mhaske has replaced Amit Malviya as social media convener. Priti Gandhi, Shivanand Dwivedi, Alok Bhatt and Arun Yadav have also been appointed social media co-convenors.
WHAT DOES THE NEW TEAM SIGNAL?
The composition of Nitin Nabin’s team points to a two-track strategy: retaining experienced organisational hands while accelerating the induction of new faces. The continued presence of leaders such as B L Santhosh, Sunil Bansal, Vinod Tawde and Anil Antony provides organisational continuity, while the large-scale changes at the secretary, Morcha and media levels create space for a new generation.
With 12 women in the 65-member team, 14 new faces among 16 national secretaries, six new entrants among eight general secretaries and new presidents for all seven Morchas, the reshuffle represents a substantial organisational reset without completely breaking with the BJP’s established leadership structure.
