Cracking the UPSC Civil Services exam is a dream for many. However, some individuals have managed to achieve this feat multiple times. One such person is IPS Amrit Jain, who has cleared the exam not once or twice, but four times consecutively. Currently, he is working as an ASP in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Let’s delve into his remarkable journey, achieved without any coaching.

Jain studied Electrical Engineering at NIT, Warangal, and after obtaining his B Tech degree, he pursued higher education at Czech Technical University in Prague. He started his career in a private company in Hyderabad, but soon developed a strong desire to succeed in the UPSC Civil Services, which marked the beginning of his hard work.

Coming from a modest family, Jain’s talent is anything but ordinary. He first attempted the civil service exam in 2016 without the necessary preparation. Overconfident, he assumed the exam would consist solely of multiple-choice questions and failed in his first attempt.

In 2017, he tried again but missed success by just one mark. This failure made him more determined. Without opting for any coaching, he changed his study style and strategy, becoming more aware of the exam pattern. He incorporated rigorous hard work into his studies, adhering to the mantra ‘Practice makes a man perfect’. He took 140 mock tests, each lasting one to one and a half hours.

He later emphasised the importance of these mock tests in becoming comfortable with the actual exam format. During the exam, he stayed focused, reading each question at least three times to avoid errors. He attributes his success to discipline, regular practice, and focused study, choosing Political Science as his optional subject.

There was no success in 2016 and 2017, but since then, Amrit Jain has not looked back. He succeeded in the UPSC Civil Services for four consecutive years – 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. In 2018, he was on the reserve list and joined the Indian Defence Accounts Service. His rankings were 321 in 2019, 96 in 2020, and 179 in 2021.

Despite his success, he has yet to achieve his dream of becoming an IAS officer. However, he has no regrets. According to Amrit, everyone aims to become an IAS officer when they appear for the UPSC Civil Services exam, but not everyone’s wish is fulfilled. Nonetheless, with steadfastness and hard work, success in life is attainable.
