West Bengal Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari arrived in Nandigram on Friday to campaign for the BJP candidate. He said that the name and symbol of Trinamool Congress has been wiped out from the state.
The official said that the Election Commission has given separate names and election symbols to Mamata Banerjee and Arup Roy factions. Without naming anyone, he said, “The main thief will also go to jail.”
The officer was campaigning for BJP’s Nandigram by-election candidate Hasirani Rath. He asked the people to get the deposits of all the rival candidates confiscated by voting in the by-elections.
Nandigram by-election will be held in East Medinipur district. Apart from this, by-election will also be held on Rejinagar seat of Murshidabad district. Voting on both seats will be held on October 6.

BJP has been winning in Nandigram for two consecutive times.
Nandigram has long been a major center of political conflict between TMC and BJP. The 2007 anti-land acquisition movement in this region played a big role in bringing Mamata Banerjee and TMC to power in 2011.
In 2021, Mamata Banerjee contested the elections from here against the current Bengal CM Subhendu Adhikari, but lost. In the 2026 assembly elections, Shubhendu Adhikari contested from Bhawanipur seat along with Nandigram and won both the places.
Later the officer retained the Bhawanipur seat and resigned from Nandigram. After this Nandigram seat became vacant.
Hasirani is the mother of CM Adhikari’s PA.
Hasirani Rath is the mother of CM Shubhendu Adhikari’s PA Chandranath Rath. Chandranath was shot near Madhyamgram late on the night of 6 May. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
