The Nifty 50 and Sensex opened on a muted note as investors awaited clearer signals on ongoing US-Iran negotiations.
At around 9:19 AM, the Nifty 50 was up 0.04%, or 8.55 points, at 24,205.30, while the Sensex gained 124.5 points, or 0.16%, to trade at 78,113.17.
Global Cues
US President Donald Trump reiterated that the conflict with Iran could end soon. He also said Lebanon and Israel have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire, with Israel halting attacks on Lebanon — a key condition reportedly set by Iran for de-escalation.
The US and Iran are expected to hold talks over the weekend, keeping markets on edge.
Asian markets traded lower on Friday despite a record-setting rally on Wall Street overnight, as investors awaited clearer signals on a potential US-Iran truce.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.83%, while South Korea’s Kospi declined 0.33%. China’s CSI 300 slipped 0.16%.
On Wall Street, benchmark indices extended gains, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite rising 0.26% and 0.36%, respectively, to fresh record highs. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also ended 0.24% higher.
In commodities, Brent crude eased as optimism around a potential resolution improved the supply outlook. The April futures contract was trading at $98.30 per barrel, down 1.10%.
Meanwhile, gold and silver futures were slightly lower, declining 0.06% and 0.32%, respectively.
