The US court has ordered to lift the ban imposed by the Trump administration on journalists of CNN, MS NOW and Politico. Now journalists of these three media organizations will again be able to get entry into the White House.
US Federal Judge Timothy Kelly said that the ban imposed on media could be against the US Constitution. All three media organizations had appealed in court against Trump’s decision.
On September 18, Trump had announced to ban CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House. At that time, journalists from all three media organizations were present in the White House press area and were doing their reporting.
Answering the questions of journalists, Trump had said that CNN, MS NOW and Politico were banned for spreading fake news.
Media organizations said- did not get a chance to present their side before the ban
CNN, MS NOW and Politico said in court that Trump’s decision violates their First Amendment rights. The First Amendment of the US Constitution protects freedom of speech and the press.
All three media organizations had said that they were not even given a chance to present their views before removing the access.
Media organizations accused of leaking confidential information
The Trump administration had cited national security in the court. He said that along with wrong information, sensitive and confidential information was also leaked in some news of CNN, MS NOW and Politico.
The administration cited CNN’s report on the bunker beneath the White House, MS NOW’s report on US weapons shortages in the Iran war, and Politico’s report on the funding of the White House ballroom.
The US Department of Justice also said that these media organizations did not follow the prescribed rules.
Trump has been raising questions on the media before too
Trump has consistently called CNN’s reporting ‘fake news’ since 2016. Even during his tenure, the White House pass of CNN journalists has been stopped.
Trump has also accused big newspapers like the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal of being biased against him. He publicly raised questions on the reporting of these media institutions and alleged that these institutions publish news against him with bad intentions.
White House launches Trump TV
After the ban on journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico, major American TV channels had stopped sharing live coverage of Trump’s programs.
After this the White House started its online video feed, named ‘Trump TV’.
