Supreme Court declines urgent hearing of plea for court monitored SIT probe, asks what is the urgency, says petition will be heard after vacation ends

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to urgently list a plea seeking a court-monitored, time-bound investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Ram Temple donation scam casesaying the matter would be taken up after the court reopens.
The petition sought directions for a court-supervised probe by an SIT into the matter. However, the apex court refused to grant an urgent hearing.
During the mentioning of the case, the bench questioned the need for immediate intervention, asking, “What’s the urgency?”
The court also observed that “heavens are not going to fall” if the case will be heard after the court reopens.
The court subsequently directed that the petition be listed after the court resumes functioning following the vacation.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the alleged theft of Ram Temple donations has now shifted towards tracing the suspected money trail, with police closely examining the assets and financial transactions of Anukalp Mishra, one of the main accused in the case.
Investigators are trying to determine whether the properties and other assets allegedly acquired by Mishra in recent years were purchased using money diverted from devotees’ donations. Officials are scrutinising his bank transactions, investments and recent spending as part of the financial investigation.
According to police sources, Anukalp was employed by the outsourced agency responsible for counting cash offerings at the Ram Temple. Investigators suspect he played a crucial role in the alleged embezzlement of donations.
The probe has also uncovered the alleged involvement of his brother-in-law, Lavkush Mishra. Police claim Anukalp arranged Lavkush’s appointment in the same cash-counting team through the outsourcing agency. Both men are among the eight accused arrested so far.
As the investigation gathered pace, police visited Basawa village in Ayodhya district, where Anukalp’s family lives. During the visit, officers found that his residence stood out from neighbouring houses because of its comparatively lavish construction. Local residents reportedly told investigators that the family’s financial status had improved sharply over the past few years.
Officials are now verifying claims that Anukalp recently built a farmhouse on the outskirts of the village and purchased a house in Ayodhya last year for around Rs 65 lakh. They are also checking reports that he was planning to buy a Mahindra Scorpio SUV.
