Liverpool bounced back to winning ways with their triumph at West Ham on Sunday in the Premier League, while Aston Villa edged past travelling Wolves. Brighton picked up all points on offer on the road as they pipped Nottingham at the City Ground in the other fixture.
Arne Slot’s Reds snapped a run of three defeats as Alexandre Isak and Cody Gakpo netted against West Ham, while Boubacar Kamara’s goal helped Aston Villa trounce Wolves.
It was Isak first goal for Liverpool since his record move to the Merseyside club from Newcastle United as the PL holders clinched three points on the road.
“There’s definitely a feeling of relief because if you have lost so many times, then winning is important. We hardly conceded a chance and we were able to create chances ourselves,” Reds boss Arne Slot said.
“It helps if you don’t go 1-0 down after five minutes because then you are more open. We played the game I wanted us to play. What I saw meant a lot to our players and our fans.
“This is a good first step for us. We won and had a clean sheet. I think it does feel significant,” Slot said.
