Saurabh Gaikwad, 25-year-old son of Pune Deputy Mayor and NCP (Sharad faction) leader Bandu Gaikwad, hit a tempo truck with his SUV. The tempo truck driver and his companion are injured in the accident. Saurabh Gaikwad has also sustained injuries.
According to news agency PTI, the incident took place at around 5 am on Tuesday. Police said that a tempo truck full of chickens was passing on Manjari-Mundhwa road in Pune. Then suddenly the high speed Tata Harrier of Saurabh Gaikwad, son of NCP leader, came from the round side and hit the tempo truck from the front.
CCTV footage of the incident is going viral on social media. It showed that after a head-on collision on a single lane road, both the vehicles stopped on both sides of the road. The front part of the black car was badly damaged.
At the same time, due to the collision with the car, some chickens loaded in the tempo truck fell on the road. The tempo truck driver, cleaner and Saurabh Gaikwad, all three were injured in the accident. Local people took them to the hospital, where all three are undergoing treatment.
The police have filed a complaint against Saurabh Gaikwad. He is accused of driving on the wrong side. He has not been taken into custody yet as he is admitted in the hospital. According to sources, Saurabh Gaikwad was drunk. However, the police have not confirmed this.
