Nestled in the Madhubani district of Bihar lies a village that has been a repository of knowledge since the era of kings and emperors. This village is called Koilakh. Far from fading, its reputation has only continued to grow. Until recently, this village led in producing IAS and IPS officers. Today, it is home to more than two dozen doctors, spanning Ayurvedic, Homeopathic, and MBBS fields. Let’s take a closer look at this remarkable village.

The most educated village in Madhubani

Koilakh village, situated in North Bihar’s Madhubani district, is especially well known across the Mithila region. Its sizeable population and reputation have made it one of the most prosperous and well-educated villages around. Spread across several hamlets, nearly every household here includes government employees, private-sector workers, and engineers. The village was once renowned for producing IAS and IPS officers, and now it is recognised for its more than two dozen doctors.

Locals believe Koilakh village enjoys the direct blessings of Goddess Bhagwati. Speaking exclusively to Local 18, resident Ramesh explains that the village is quite expansive, and its people feel blessed by both Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Kali. The village’s eastern and northern neighborhoods alone are home to six administrative officers, seven MBBS doctors, and 15-16 homeopathic and Ayurvedic practitioners. Each year, children from the village continue to secure top ranks in competitive examinations.

Among the village’s notable figures are IAS officer Sudhir Kumar Jha, IPS officer Mihir Kumar Jha, IG Pankaj Jha, IAS officer Murali Jha, IAS officer Praveen Kumar, Dr. Madan (celebrated across Asia in the medical field), Dr. Bhavanath Mishra, and Dr. Mohan Mishra — a Padma Shri recipient in 2014 who has been a pioneering figure in treating Visceral Leishmaniasis (Kala Azar) through the use of Amphotericin B.
