The Union Minister has taken the Congress to task over the controversy over singing only two verses of the national anthem ‘Vande Mataram’ at the Congress meeting in Goa. He called it a ‘terrible crime’ and an insult to the country and Mother India. He said that Vande Mataram is a symbol of our national pride and culture, for which revolutionaries risked their lives. Shivraj Singh reminded that according to the law of Parliament, it is now mandatory to sing Vande Mataram in full and insulting it is a crime. He also raised questions on the statement of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in which he has referred to the tradition of singing two verses. Shivraj Singh asked in a strong tone whether Congress is above the Constitution and Parliament? He demanded legal action against the culprits.
