Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday received a congratulatory call from Malaysia Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during which they discussed ways to strengthen relations between the state and his country.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Shivakumar had also received an invitation to visit Malaysia to further strengthen cooperation.
“Delighted to speak with the Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia, who called to convey his warm wishes on my new responsibility as Chief Minister of Karnataka,” the CM posted on X, sharing a short video of the conversation.

He further said that the discussion focused on strengthening ties between Karnataka and Malaysia, particularly in education, technology, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges.
“With many Malaysian students pursuing their education in Karnataka, there is immense potential to deepen our partnership,” he added.
Shivakumar was sworn-in as the Chief Minister along with 13 ministers on June 3.
An eight-time legislator, Shivakumar had also received congratulatory message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“He has wished me, and I thank him for that,” he told reporters on Saturday, adding he would meet the Prime Minister to fetch support for the state’s development agenda.
On Friday, PM Modi attacked the Congress saying the decision to replace its CM in Karnataka was the result of growing public anger against its government.
In response, Shivakumar said: “I will go and meet him. We should not do politics and they should not do politics either. Let us cooperate on development issues.”
