Questions are being raised in political circles over the real purpose of Mamata Banerjee’s visit to Delhi. While the official reason is her participation in the INDIA alliance meeting, speculation has intensified following the party’s recent electoral setback.

Is Mamata Banerjee’s Delhi visit solely aimed at attending the INDIA alliance meeting, or is it also an attempt to stabilise her parliamentary party amid growing internal dissent?

This question is now doing the rounds in Delhi’s political corridors, amid murmurs that a section of Trinamool Congress MPs is regrouping and seeking a change in the party’s Lok Sabha leadership, currently held by Abhishek Banerjee.

Sources say senior TMC top leaders have been attempting to reach out to disgruntled MPs. However, News18 has learnt from sources that a significant number of these MPs are currently unwilling to engage with the party leadership. According to sources, efforts to pacify the dissenting MPs have already been made at the highest levels of the party.

Political observers note that the Trinamool Congress appears more eager this time to participate in the INDIA bloc meeting and send positive signals to the Congress. Relations between the two parties had deteriorated during the West Bengal Assembly election campaign, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi openly campaigning against the TMC. However, following the electoral setback, the TMC appears to have renewed its outreach to the Congress leadership.

Interestingly, senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury met Rahul Gandhi on Saturday. Sources said Adhir conveyed that while the TMC as a party currently lacks public acceptance, there are individual TMC leaders and workers who retain credibility and are not perceived as corrupt. Such individuals, he reportedly suggested, could be considered by the Congress in the future.

Political circles are also discussing the significance of Rahul Gandhi choosing to meet Adhir Chowdhury rather than the current West Bengal Congress leadership. Adhir has long been regarded as one of Mamata Banerjee’s strongest political critics.

Sources further indicate that the Congress is assessing its political prospects in West Bengal before deciding the future course of its relationship with the TMC.

Meanwhile, sources claim that the disgruntled TMC MPs remain determined and are continuing efforts to consolidate support within the parliamentary party.
