The Government of Ireland has opened applications for the 2026 International Education Scholarship programme, offering 60 awards to international students.
The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship (GOI-IES) programme will open applications for the 2026 cycle on January 29, offering international students the opportunity to pursue higher education in Ireland with full financial support.
The scholarship is funded by the Government of Ireland in partnership with Irish higher education institutions and is managed by the Higher Education Authority (HEA). It is open to high-performing international students seeking to study at NFQ Levels 9 and 10, which include master’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas and PhD programmes.
A total of 60 scholarships are awarded every year under the scheme. Each award supports one year of full-time study. Selected students receive a stipend of €10,000, while the host Irish institution provides a full waiver of tuition fees for the duration of the scholarship.
The last date to apply is 5 pm (Irish time) on March 12, 2026. The results are expected to be announced in early June 2026.
To be eligible, applicants must have a domicile of origin outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Candidates must first apply for admission to an eligible course at an Irish higher education institution and must hold either a conditional or final offer of admission at the time of applying for the scholarship. Proof of admission must be submitted along with the application.
Students who have previously received a Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship are not eligible to apply. Russian and Belarusian nationals are also not eligible under the 2026 call.

Applications will be evaluated on academic performance, communication skills, extracurricular involvement and the applicant’s reasons for choosing to study in Ireland.
