Not Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli, Mohammad Kaif Reveals The Real Key To India’s 2027 ODI World Cup Dream

Not Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli, Mohammad Kaif Reveals The Real Key To India’s 2027 ODI World Cup Dream

Former India batter Mohammad Kaif shared his opinions regarding the 2027 ODI World Cup, which is set to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. He pointed out that the playing conditions in South Africa have become batting-friendly. Kaif added that the difference in the quality of the bowling attacks will determine the winner. In addition to some other matches, the two semi-finals and the final of the mega event will be hosted by South Africa. Cape Town, Centurion, and Johannesburg are the venues for the three important clashes.

“The conditions have become much better in South Africa, there are a lot of batting-friendly pitches. So, I don’t think bowlers will dominate. I feel batters will dominate, so the team with better bowlers will do well,” said Kaif, as quoted by Hindustan Sports.

“The focus is on Rohit Sharma and Virat KohliI think they will be fine. If India have to win, bowling and fielding must be sorted out. They are the two important aspects,” he added.

There is uncertainty regarding the participation of Virat and Rohit, as the players will be 39 and 40 years old, respectively, by the time the ODI World Cup takes place.

Kaif stressed the importance of a team effort and highlighted that Kohli alone would not win the World Cup for India.

“One player will not win you the World Cup abroad. Kohli is the main player, but a lot of others will need to help,” the former batter said.

Kaif cited the example of the 2003 ODI World Cup, in which India ended as runners-up after losing to Australia in the final. Sachin Tendulkar was named Player of the Tournament.

“Tendulkar was our main batter, but if you check the matches, others also contributed. Yuvraj got important runs, I got an unbeaten half-century against New Zealand, Rahul Dravid scored runs, Virender Sehwag scored runs, Ashish Nehra produced a match-winning spell against England, Zaheer Khan bowled good spells, and Javagal Srinath was our senior bowler. Ganguly’s captaincy was excellent, and a lot of credit goes to him,” explained Kaif.

The mega event next year will begin on October 2, with the final set to take place on November 21.
