Police have booked two men for alleged examination malpractice in connection with IIT Goa’s non-teaching staff recruitment after CISF personnel reportedly caught them with Bluetooth earpieces and other electronic devices at Goa’s Dabolim airport, a central security force officer said on Sunday.
One of the men was travelling to Delhi on an Air India Express flight on Saturday when a CISF screener noticed suspicious items in his hand baggage during security checks. A subsequent search led to the recovery of three electronic devices, two SIM cards and three Bluetooth earpieces allegedly used for cheating in competitive examinations, reported PTI.
According to the officer, the passenger admitted that the devices were intended for examination malpractice and told security personnel that an associate travelling on the same flight had already boarded.
The second passenger was offloaded with the help of airline staff. Security personnel allegedly recovered two Bluetooth earpieces, a SIM card and an admit card for the Administrative Assistant post in IIT Goa’s non-teaching recruitment examination, held on October 10, from his hand baggage. The officer said the second man also admitted that the Bluetooth device was intended for use in the examination.
The two men were questioned jointly by intelligence and security agencies before being handed over to the Dabolim airport police. As the examination centre fell under the jurisdiction of Ponda police station, they were subsequently booked by the police there, the officer said.
The first passenger also allegedly told CISF personnel that he had appeared for the examination on behalf of another candidate. Aadhaar cards belonging to two other individuals, which he had allegedly discarded in the airport’s security hold area, were also recovered, the officer added.
The CISF officer said the vigilance of screening personnel helped detect the devices and prevent the two men from leaving Goa with material linked to the alleged examination malpractice.
