Independence Day 2026 LIVE Updates: India will mark its 80th Independence Day on Saturday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to lead the main celebrations at the Red Fort in Delhi amid tight security and patriotic fervour.
For the first time, ‘Vande Mataram’ will be rendered during the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort. Ceremonial events will also be held across state capitals, cities and towns, featuring flag-hoisting ceremonies and cultural programmes.
The celebrations could be held under cloudy skies, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting very light to light rain in Delhi during parts of the day.
According to the IMD’s latest forecast issued on Friday, the Red Fort area has a 70% chance of around 5 mm of rain between 4 am and 6 am on August 15. Another spell of around 5 mm is expected between 6 am and 9 am, with a 60% probability.
A further spell of around 3 mm of rain is forecast during the afternoon and evening, also with a 60% chance.
