ICC AGM Meeting 2024 in Colombo: The four-day Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the ICC (International Cricket Council) is to be held in Colombo from Friday. All eyes will be on BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, where there can be serious discussions on when he will take over this post from New Zealand’s Greg Barclay.
The AGM is expected to discuss the losses of over US$20 million incurred in hosting the T20 World Cup games in the United States.
PTI reports that the nine-point agenda of the AGM does not include the financial details of the event, but it will discuss the post-event report, which is a standard operating procedure. ICC membership, associate members meeting report and ICC Development Award presentation as well as the appointment of ICC’s new external auditor are also on the agenda.
The source said that one of the main areas of interest for everyone in the ICC is when will Shah finally take over the reins of the international cricket body?
The source said, ‘It is not about how it will happen, but about when, because as BCCI secretary Jay Shah still has a year left before his cooling off period in the Indian board begins in 2025 as per the constitution. However, if he has to take over in 2025, Barclay will not be able to complete his third term of two years from December 2024 to December 2026.’
The source also said that there is a view that if the tenure of ICC presidency is changed from three terms of two years each to two terms of three years each, then this tenure can be of six years.
In such a situation, it is believed that if Barclay’s current term becomes three years, then Shah can complete his six years as BCCI Secretary and take over the post of ICC Chairman in 2025. After this, he will start working in BCCI for three years. Then in 2028, he can come back and take over the post of Board President.
Discussion on India going to Pakistan for Champions Trophy?
‘India not going to Pakistan’ for the Champions Trophy is not part of the official agenda of ICC’s AGM, but it can be discussed after the permission of the chairman.
