Afghanistan recorded a 42-run win over Ireland in Belfast on Wednesday. The team took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the 5-match series. The last match of the series will be played in Belfast on 15th August.
Batting first, Afghanistan scored 343 runs for 9 wickets. Sediqullah Atal scored 143 runs and Ibrahim Zadran scored 107 runs. In reply, Ireland was all out for 301 runs in 48 overs. Andy Balbirnie scored 109 and Curtis Campher scored 84 runs.
Yameen Ahmadzai took 4 wickets and Rashid Khan took 3 wickets from Afghanistan. Ireland’s McDonough took 3 wickets and Gavin Hoey took 2 wickets. Atal was chosen player of the match.
Gurbaz out early, Atal-Zadran took over the innings
Afghanistan suffered a setback in the beginning itself. Last match’s top scorer Rahmanullah Gurbaz was out in the second over.
After this, Atal and Zadran took over the innings by making a partnership of 231 runs for the second wicket. This is the biggest partnership on this wicket for Afghanistan in ODIs.
Both of them broke the 16 year old record. This record was in the name of Kareen Sadiq and Mohammad Shahzad, who made a partnership of 218 runs against Scotland.

Atal scored a century on his 25th birthday. He batted intelligently in the middle overs of the innings and picked up the pace again by hitting boundaries whenever the innings started to slow down, especially against spin.
Atal kept the pressure on the bowlers by continuously hitting boundaries. He seemed to be getting close to 150 runs, but was mistimed at long on and out to short.
Zadran also fully supported Atal. He scored the 7th century of his ODI career. Zadran’s innings included 11 fours and one six.
Ireland got off to a slow start
Ireland got off to a slow start in response to the big target. The team could score only 25 runs in the first 8 overs.
Yamin Ahmadzai and Azmatullah Omarzai troubled the Irish openers with swing bowling in the opening spells. Paul Stirling continued to miss balls, while Balbirnie batted cautiously.
Campher scored 84 runs in 46 balls
After the match went out of control, Curtis Campher batted in T-20 style. He scored 84 runs in 46 balls, which included 8 fours and 5 sixes.
Campher scored runs by hitting a sharp shot with a straight bat. He was out as Ireland’s ninth batsman in the 48th over. With his innings, Ireland could cross 300 runs.
