When 26-year-old realtor Ketan Agarwal died after plunging into a gorge at Lohagad Fort near Pune on June 18, the tragedy was initially treated as a trekking accident.
But even before investigators pieced together CCTV footage, phone records and digital evidence, one person refused to accept that the story added up—Ketan’s sister.
According to Pune Rural Police sources, a crucial breakthrough came four days after Ketan’s funeral when his fiancée, Siya Goyal, visited the family’s home. During the interaction, Ketan’s sister asked her a series of questions about the events leading up to the fall. The answers, police sources say, appeared inconsistent and suspicious enough for the family to alert investigators.

That suspicion would eventually become one of the threads that helped unravel what police now describe as a meticulously planned murder conspiracy involving Siya Goyal and her lover, Chetan Chaudhary.
Investigators subsequently discovered that Siya and Chetan had been in contact for three years and had spoken 2,004 times between January and June this year, clocking a cumulative 238 hours on calls. Police allege the two also frequently communicated through FaceTime and WhatsApp calls.
The ‘Perfect Moment’ After Multiple Failed Attempts
Police claim the June 18 killing was not the first attempt on Ketan’s life.
Investigators are examining at least three earlier failed attempts allegedly made by Siya and Chetan before they finally succeeded at Lohagad Fort. In one instance, Siya allegedly tried to push Ketan while pretending to save him from a snake. In other attempts, circumstances reportedly prevented the plan from being carried out.

The couple allegedly kept waiting for what police describe as the “perfect opportunity”. That opportunity came on June 18 when Siya convinced Ketan to visit Lohagad Fort to celebrate her birthday.
The Trail Of Clues
According to investigators, Chetan had allegedly taken elaborate precautions to avoid detection.
Police found that his internet activity remained switched off for nearly the entire day, from around 7am until 5.40pm. Investigators allege he left his own phone at his shop to avoid location tracking and travelled carrying an employee’s phone instead.
However, a hoodie ended up becoming one of the biggest clues.
CCTV footage showed a man wearing a hoodie despite the June heat following Ketan and Siya’s vehicle and movements around Lohagad Fort. The unusual attire drew investigators’ attention, eventually helping them identify and track Chetan.
Police also found inconsistencies in Siya’s account of the day, including explanations she allegedly offered after Ketan’s fall, prompting a deeper probe.
The Relationship Ketan Had Begun To Question
Family members have told investigators that Ketan had recently started expressing concerns about Siya’s closeness to another man and had raised doubts about aspects of her background. According to relatives, those concerns had not escalated into a major confrontation, but they had begun troubling him in the months before his death.
Investigators are also examining allegations that Siya had earlier sabotaged a planned Bali trip for a pre-wedding shoot by taking away Ketan’s passport, an episode that police believe could provide insight into the nature of the relationship and the accused’s alleged planning.
The case has further shocked both families because preparations for the wedding were already underway, with venues and celebrations being planned before the relationship ended in what police now allege was murder.
