After a technical glitch in the Purple Line of Bengaluru Metro on Tuesday evening, many passengers were seen using trucks to reach home. Many such videos went viral on social media. Passengers reached home by trucks, cabs and autos.
According to metro officials, a Purple Line train encountered a technical fault at Cubbon Park Metro station at 6 pm, due to which the entire Purple Line had to be closed.
Due to closure of the metro during peak hours, long queues of passengers formed at the stations. Because of this thousands of passengers got stuck at the station. Metro remained closed for 5 hours. Started at 5 am on Wednesday morning.

Purple line necessary for 25 lakh IT professionals
The Purple Line is the most important metro line for the tech professionals of Bengaluru. About 25 lakh IT professionals work in Bengaluru, which is about 20% of the total population of the city.

Every commuter spends approximately 117 hours a year stuck in traffic alone. Between January and June 2025, more than 3 lakh new private vehicles were added to the city roads.
Nearly 50 thousand vehicles were registered in June alone. According to the Transport Department, the number is not complete because vehicles from outside districts and states also run in the city every day.
Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla stuck in Bengaluru traffic
Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla humorously commented on the poor traffic in Bengaluru on 21 November 2025. He said that traveling in space is much easier than crossing the city’s bad traffic.
