DMK’s Murasoli questions Rahul Gandhi’s opposition unity pitch, citing criticism from INDIA bloc allies and accusing Congress of undermining partners.

The DMK’s official mouthpiece, Murasoli, has launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent remarks on opposition unity, accusing him of weakening alliances across states and questioning his credibility to lecture allies on maintaining cohesion within the INDIA bloc.
In an editorial published after Gandhi’s speech at the INDIA bloc meeting held in New Delhi on June 8, Murasoli argued that the Congress leader’s call for unity came too late and alleged that he ignored what it described as Congress’s own role in damaging relationships with key opposition partners.
At the INDIA bloc meeting, Rahul Gandhi had urged opposition parties to stand together against the BJP.
Gandhi had said, “The Congress Party’s role, as many of you have stated, is to unite all of you together with love and affection.”
However, Murasoli questioned this position, stating that Gandhi himself had weakened opposition unity in state after state.
The newspaper suggested that Gandhi publicly released his speech several days after the meeting because criticism of Congress from alliance partners had intensified, and he felt compelled to put his version of events on record.
The editorial cited objections raised by leaders of Left parties, the Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Janata Dal.
Referring to comments made during the Kerala Assembly election campaign, Murasoli highlighted criticism from CPI(M) leaders over Gandhi’s allegation that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a tacit understanding.
According to the editorial, CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas accused Gandhi of spreading falsehoods by suggesting a secret pact between the Left and the BJP.
The article also referred to CPI General Secretary D Raja, who reportedly described Gandhi’s remarks as evidence of “political immaturity.”
The DMK mouthpiece further pointed to criticism from other opposition leaders.
It claimed that Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had expressed concern over the absence of both the DMK and the Aam Aadmi Party from the INDIA bloc meeting, while RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav had raised issues regarding Congress’s conduct in Bihar.
The editorial also took aim at Gandhi’s reported remark that he could never embrace Pinarayi Vijayan.
Contrasting the statement with Gandhi’s hug of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament, Murasoli questioned the Congress leader’s political approach and consistency.
Turning to Tamil Nadu, the newspaper alleged that Congress had repeatedly undermined the DMK despite being an ally and claimed such actions were carried out with Gandhi’s approval.
It further argued that Congress often sought support from regional parties during parliamentary elections while working against them during state-level contests.
The article claimed that concerns over Congress’s treatment of allies had been voiced by several opposition leaders and parties.
According to Murasoli, criticism of Congress became a central theme during a meeting that was originally convened to discuss opposition unity against the BJP.
