Dharapuram By-Poll Election Results 2026, Tamil Nadu By-Election Counting Live Updates: Counting of votes for the Dharapuram Assembly bypoll began at 8 am today, with the results expected to be declared after the counting process.
The TVK is leading in Dharapuram by 9,226 votes over the DMK in the latest counting trends, with the AIADMK in third place.
The counting process started with postal ballots at 8 am, followed by the counting of votes recorded in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from 8:30 am. The EVM counting will be conducted in 23 rounds.
The bypoll was held on October 6, with 78.53% voter turnout recorded in the constituency by 5 pm.
The Dharapuram bypoll has turned into a five-cornered contest, with several independent candidates also in the fray. The key candidates are P Sathyabama of the Tamil Nadu Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), S Suganya of the DMK and K Bhanumathi of the AIADMK.
Sathyabama, who had won the Dharapuram seat on an AIADMK ticket in the April Assembly election, resigned from the party and joined the TVK.
She was subsequently fielded by the ruling party in the bypoll. The contest is therefore also being closely watched in the context of her switch from the AIADMK to the TVK.
DMK Targets TVK Over Dharapuram Bypoll
DMK president MK Stalin has criticised the bypoll, calling it an unnecessary financial burden caused by what he described as “political horse-trading” and “betrayal”.
The DMK has also raised questions over the election expenditure of TVK candidate P Sathyabama. DMK MLA S Austin has urged the Election Commission to investigate a social media video purportedly featuring Sathyabama claiming that she spent Rs 31 crore during the last Assembly election while contesting on an AIADMK ticket.
Austin has sought stern action if the expenditure disclosed in her accounts is found to be inconsistent with the actual spending.
AIADMK Attacks Sathyabama’s Switch
The AIADMK has accused Sathyabama of betraying the party after winning the Dharapuram seat on its ticket. Party leader Edappadi K Palaniswami urged voters to punish defectors and sought to turn the bypoll into a test for the TVK.
