INDIA bloc leaders met President Droupadi Murmu and submitted a memorandum over their allegations against the Election Commission.

INDIA Bloc leaders also met President Droupadi Murmu
The INDIA bloc leaders, along with Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee, on Friday met President Droupadi Murmu and submitted a memorandum over their concerns regarding the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The meeting came after several days of protests by Opposition leaders against the Election Commission, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged irregularities in the electoral process. The Opposition has also been demanding Kumar’s resignation.
INDIA Bloc Submits Memorandum To President
Speaking after the meeting, Mamata Banerjee said the delegation had submitted a memorandum and that the President had assured them that she would examine their concerns.
“We have submitted a memorandum. We have seen from a positive outlook that she said she will investigate; she will go through the details, and she needs evidence,” Banerjee said.
She added that the President had asked the Opposition to provide the material supporting its allegations.
“She has asked us to send, which we said we will. The country is very concerned, and you, as a custodian of the Constitution, should take proper care so the democracy remains,” Banerjee said.
She further said the President had responded that she would investigate the matter.
Rahul Gandhi Says President Did Not Deny Opposition’s Claims
Rahul Gandhi, speaking after the meeting, said the delegation had raised its concerns directly with President Murmu.
“I sat in quite an unbelievable meeting. First, we took a memorandum to the President of India. In that memorandum, we clearly stated that the Prime Minister, Home Minister Amit Shah, and CEC Gyanesh Kumar had conspired to destroy Indian democracy,” Gandhi said.
He claimed that the President neither denied nor disputed the Opposition’s statements.
“The President in no way denied what we said, questioned what we said, or argued what we said. She accepted our statement and then told us that we needed to provide her with proof of ‘election chori’,” Gandhi said.
Gandhi said the Opposition had already maintained that the alleged electoral irregularities were known across the country.
“I said that the evidence of ‘election chori’ is known to the entire country. State after state has been stolen. The 2024 election was stolen, and yet the President wants us to submit proof to her,” he said.
He added that the Opposition would provide the material collected by it when the President was ready to receive it.
“This same group of people will be very happy to present the evidence of ‘election chori’ that we have collected to the President of India when she is ready to accept it,” Gandhi said.
Kharge Raises EVM, Ballot Paper Demand
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the Opposition delegation also raised its demand for changes in the electoral process.
“Leaders from our alliance met the President and submitted a memorandum. We went specifically to apprise the President of the agitation we launched four days ago regarding the theft of votes, and we presented our case fully,” Kharge said.
He said the delegation highlighted what it described as serious concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission and CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
“We highlighted the issue of vote theft and the grave error committed by Gyanesh Kumar. We demanded that EVMs be set aside and elections be conducted using ballot papers,” Kharge said.
Kharge also said the President had asked the Opposition to provide evidence supporting its allegations.
“Furthermore, she asked for evidence regarding the instances of vote theft; we are currently compiling this evidence and will submit it,” he said.
According to Kharge, the President assured the delegation that she would examine the matter.
“We will provide all other relevant information as well. Above all, we addressed the fact that PM Modi and Amit Shah are intent on destroying the country’s democracy and are actively taking steps in that direction. She listened attentively and stated that she would investigate the matter thoroughly, consult the concerned parties, and determine the appropriate course of action,” Kharge said.
Opposition Steps Up Campaign Against CEC
The meeting followed a series of INDIA bloc protests in Delhi demanding action over the electoral roll revision process and the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. The Opposition has also been calling for greater transparency in electoral roll revisions and has backed a return to ballot papers instead of EVMs.
The Election Commission, however, has rejected the Opposition’s allegations and maintained its position on the electoral process. The political dispute has intensified in recent days, with protests and counterclaims between the Opposition and the ruling side.
