Manchester United should always be fighting for trophies says Amad Diallo

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has insisted that the Premier League giants should always be fighting for trophies, admitting that the club need to improve significantly and show greater consistency if they are to challenge for the title this season. With the Red Devils looking to get their campaign back on track, Diallo believes they must start turning draws into wins and climb up the Premier League table.

Speaking in an interview shared by JioStarDiallo reflected on Manchester United’s difficult start to the season, his ambitions at Old Trafford and the importance of delivering results for a club with such a rich history. The Ivorian also opened up about his dream of joining United, his memorable extra-time winner against Liverpool in the FA Cup and the influence of former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy on his development.

“Can we win the title? Look, it’s still early, but we have to be honest with ourselves. We need to improve a lot and be more consistent if we want to challenge for the title. Manchester United is a club that should always be fighting for trophies, and that is what we will try to do. We will keep pushing and see where we are at the end of the season,” Diallo said.

The winger acknowledged that United’s performances at the start of the campaign have fallen short of expectations, stressing that the team must find a way to convert dropped points into victories.

“We know we haven’t started the season the way we wanted. One win and two draws is not good enough for a club like Manchester United. We are 12th in the table right now and that is not where we belong. But the season is long and nothing is decided yet. We have to take it game by game, keep working hard on the training ground, and start turning these draws into wins,” he added.

Amad Diallo Eyes Crucial Win Against Tottenham

Manchester United will face Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on October 10, with Diallo underlining the importance of securing three points against their Premier League rivals. The winger believes the home fixture presents an opportunity for the Red Devils to build momentum and improve their position in the standings.

“Matches against Tottenham are always big ones for Manchester United. The history between these two clubs is huge. We know what it means to the fans and to everyone at this club. When you play for United, these are the games you want to play in,” Diallo said.

He also pointed to United’s previous results against Tottenham and believes playing at Old Trafford gives his team an opportunity to make a statement.

“I remember last season we beat them and drew against them in the Premier League, so we know we can get a result against them. They are struggling right now, and we are at home at Old Trafford, so we must take advantage of that. Winning this game is very important for us. We need to start climbing the table and this is the perfect opportunity to do that,” he added.

Diallo further stressed that a victory would provide United with much-needed confidence ahead of their upcoming fixtures.

“We have had a tough start to the season, so getting three points here would give us confidence and momentum for the games coming up. It’s a must-win for us,” he said.

Diallo Recalls Dream Come True At Manchester United

For Diallo, joining Manchester United was the fulfilment of a childhood dream. The winger arrived in England in 2021 and admitted that adapting to a new country, culture and language was challenging during his initial weeks.

“When I came to England to play in the Premier League in 2021, I felt quite strange in the first few weeks. New country, new surroundings, didn’t speak English, different cultures. It took me time to adapt and settle down; I had to adapt,” he recalled.

However, the moment he joined United remains particularly special to him, especially because it also gave him the opportunity to meet his idol, Paul Pogba.

“I remember, the first thing I said to myself after joining Manchester United was ‘Thank you God,’ because my dream was to play for Manchester United. And I met Paul Pogba, he was my idol, so I asked to have a picture with him. And yeah, after that, we played together. That is something that I can’t explain, honestly,” Diallo said.

‘Best Red Card Ever’: Diallo On FA Cup Winner Against Liverpool

One of the defining moments of Diallo’s Manchester United career came in the 2024 FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool, when he scored a dramatic extra-time winner to seal a 4-3 victory for the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

The winger admitted that the occasion was among the biggest moments of his career, with the significance of the fixture and the emotion of scoring against United’s fierce rivals making it even more memorable.

“Scoring the winning goal in the FA Cup quarter-final is one of the big moments so far in my career, and in such a crucial moment against a big rival like Liverpool at the Old Trafford stadium and in front of our fans, everything was emotion,” he said.

Diallo, however, was shown a second yellow card for taking off his shirt during the celebrations, resulting in his dismissal. Looking back at the incident, he recalled the moment with a sense of humour.

“I took off my jersey to celebrate because I didn’t realize I had gotten a yellow card already. Then, I had to take the red card, but I think it’s the best red card ever!” he added.

Diallo Credits Ruud van Nistelrooy For Valuable Advice

Diallo also spoke about the influence of former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, whose experience as one of the game’s finest goalscorers helped the winger improve his movement and finishing.

The Ivorian revealed that he had known Van Nistelrooy from his early days at the club and continued to benefit from his advice during their subsequent time together at Manchester United.

“He gave me a lot of advice, he gave me a lot of instructions, he gave me so many good positive things that can help my game. As a striker, he was one of the best in the box, so his tips on movement and finishing have been really useful for me,” Diallo said.

“He knows what it takes to score goals at this level, and having someone like him around the squad was a big help for a young player like me,” he added.

As Manchester United prepare for their clash against Tottenham, Diallo will be hoping to translate his confidence into performances on the pitch. With the club aiming to recover from a difficult start, the winger knows that results must improve if United are to live up to their ambitions of competing for major honours this season.
