Antoine Griezmann joins Orlando City SC on a two year deal with option after leaving Atlético Madrid, targeting a July MLS debut.

Star French forward Antoine Griezmann is set for a two-year stay at Orlando City SC, according to a report in ESPN. The contract comes with an additional one-year option.
Atlético Madrid forward Griezmann flew to Orlando on Sunday night after his team’s 3-2 derby loss to Real Madrid to complete the move, as per the report and is expected to start playing for the MLS outfit in July.
Griezmann will stay with Atlético Madrid until the end of the season, with a UEFA Champions League quarterfinal against FC Barcelona and a Copa del Rey final versus Real Sociedad still to come.
The former France star, part of the 2018 FIFA World Cup-winning team, retired from international football in 2024.
As per earlier reports, Griezmann had been in talks over a move to Orlando before the end of the La Liga season, but chose to delay the switch in order to see out the campaign with Atlético Madrid.
Griezmann is Atlético’s all-time leading scorer with 210 goals, but has yet to bag a major trophy under manager Diego Simeone.
Simeone has said that he would back whatever decision Griezmann, a long-time Atlético Madrid stalwart, chooses to make, with the forward’s current contract running until 2027.
Major League Soccer’s summer transfer window is all set to open on July 13.
As per a report by The New York TimesGriezmann will be signed through the 2027-28 season, the first full campaign of Major League Soccer to align more with the European calendar, with an option for the 2028-29 season.
Griezmann has expressed his desire to play in Major League Soccer, citing his strong affinity for American sports and culture, with frequent visits to the US, where he has often been spotted attending NBA matches.
