It’s safe to say Marcus Rashford is enjoying life in Catalonia.
After arriving at Barcelona on loan from Manchester United, the England forward has rediscovered both his confidence and his spark under Hansi Flick.
But on Sunday night, Rashford delivered his biggest moment yet on the grandest stage possible.
Rashford’s Magical Strike
With the El Clasico carrying title-deciding stakes, Rashford lit up Camp Nou with a thunderous free-kick that sent Barcelona on their way to a 2-1 victory over Real Madrid CF and secured the club’s 29th La Liga title.
The strike was special for more than one reason — not only did Rashford leave Thibaut Courtois rooted to the spot with a vicious effort into the top corner, he also ended Barcelona’s astonishing 14-year wait for a direct free-kick goal in El Clasico.
The last Barcelona player to score directly from a set-piece against Madrid? Lionel Messi back in October 2012.
Barcelona’s Conundrum
Rashford’s ninth-minute wondergoal set the tone for a dominant Barcelona performance and capped off what has quietly become an outstanding season for the 28-year-old. Across all competitions, he now has 14 goals and 14 assists under Flick.
And suddenly, Barcelona may have a difficult decision to make. The club reportedly agreed personal terms with Rashford over a permanent deal months ago, but have hesitated over activating the €30 million purchase option included in his loan agreement. Ironically, his estimated market value is currently believed to be even higher.
Does Rashford Want To Stay Or Leave?
After the match, Rashford admitted he still does not know where his future lies.
“I don’t know if I’m going to stay. If I were a magician, I’d stay,” he said.
“I came to Barcelona to win and my intention is to keep winning. The team is incredible. This team is going to win many things in the future and being able to be a part of it would be very special.”
Interestingly, Rashford also revealed he almost didn’t take the decisive free-kick at all.
“Tbh in the beginning I wasn’t gonna shoot. I didn’t see the angles & Courtios is really big. I didn’t feel it wasn’t gonna be a goal. But Dani & Pedri told me “shoot shoot”!It’s good it went in bcz in training yesterday I didn’t score any”

“I wasn’t going to take it. I couldn’t see the angle and I didn’t know where to shoot,” he admitted.
“But then everyone told me to take it and that encouraged me and gave me confidence. In the end, it was a great goal.”
