Be it a plate in a luxurious restaurant in Aruba or the menu of a five-star hotel, Vishal Jethwa savors every dish wholeheartedly. His plate is full of colorful flavours, but the fragrance of desi taste still resides in some corner of his heart. Even after becoming a star, Vishal’s heart is completely down to earth, and the same is clearly reflected in his food choices. Vishal, who has gained international recognition with the film ‘Homebound’, may have become famous on the global stage today, but when it comes to food, his heart still rests on the food prepared by his mother. Vishal believes that desi food has not only taste but also emotions. When he gets home-cooked food after a long and tiring shooting schedule, it is no less than a celebration for him. Today in Star’s Thali we will know about Vishal Jethwa’s favorite food. ‘Ringana Batata Nu Shaak Ane Bhaat’ Popular Gujarati Dish My mother cooks very well. Ringana Batata Nu Shaak Ane Bhaat is a popular Gujarati dish. It means brinjal and potato vegetable and rice. I like to eat this very much. This Gujarati shaak is made from spicy brinjal and potatoes, often stuffed or prepared in gravy style. It is served with rice or roti. Apart from this, I also find it amazing to stuff capsicum with potatoes and eat it with roti and tea. ‘Tel Marchu ane Rotli’ is a very interesting thing. Another interesting thing is Tel Marchu ane Rotli. If you apply oil, chilli powder and salt on previously made roti and eat it, it tastes different. It does not require fresh bread. You can eat afternoon bread in the evening or the next morning. Rasgulla and Rasmalai are also my favourites. As soon as I return from a trip abroad, I feel like eating all the things made by my mother the next day. Thepla is a very favorite dish among our Gujaratis. Thepla is a very favorite dish among our Gujaratis. It is a thin, spicy roti-like dish made of fenugreek, gram flour, wheat flour, curd and spices. Every Gujju, no matter who he is or whatever his status, whenever he travels somewhere, he definitely takes thepla with him. I take the entire stock of thepla with me to all the international events held for my film ‘Homebound’, I myself used to take thepla with me. Whoever is there in the house, mother, grandmother, aunt or my sister, prepares everything and sends it. Whenever I go out somewhere, I carry the entire stock with me. If there was nothing to eat, he would eat thepla with pickles and chillies. I also feed my entire team. Early in the morning everyone would call for Thepla. Ishaan Khattar likes Dhefli very much, he calls him Dafli. Eating Dhephali keeps the stomach full for some time. It is mildly sweet, so Ishaan eats it a lot. Janhvi Kapoor also loves desi food. Janhvi Kapoor was busy shooting for her second project, so she could not travel much internationally with us. Considering the environment in which Jhanvi was brought up, I thought that she might not like middle class things. But brother, it is exactly the opposite. He enjoys talking like this, making jokes and eating such food. But she pays a lot of attention to her diet. Like whenever we go, there are events on the next day, we have to be seen somewhere. That’s why she keeps her diet under control. I don’t understand foreign food. I often don’t understand the food in foreign countries. If he used to go to any restaurant with Ishaan and Janhvi, he himself would say in front, “Vishal, should I order Indian cheese for you, I know you want this.” Whenever I got a chance to have lunch-dinner with Karan Johar, I used to just listen to him. Eating while sitting in the village is a different pleasure, Gujju likes simple desi food. Potato vegetable is called Lasaniya Poteda. Eat bhakri or roti with it. There is a different pleasure in eating while sitting in the village. Chop the vegetables and mix them in bhakri. Along with fresh milk or buttermilk, its aroma is different. Bhajans are being played in the evening, friends and family are sitting. Grandmothers and mothers are wearing sarees. Buffaloes should be around. The taste of food in such an environment is not found anywhere else. My sister makes very good corn bread and potato curry. Didi also makes amazing dal and rice. We eat all these things properly. Meaning absolutely typical Gujju Indian family food. Street food is also my favorite, all the things at home are healthy. Apart from home food, I like pav bhaji very much. It is good to eat pav bhaji and tawa pulao. Also like South Indian food. I like street food very much. Sometimes on the way, I go to Mysore to eat Masala Dosa. Myth regarding protein and non-veg: There is a big myth among the people that protein is found only in non-veg. I don’t believe in this, but every person has his own beliefs. I personally am a vegetarian and one of my wishes is to do so. Which will never be completed. This is a controversial topic. I want the whole world to become vegetarian. I am fond of animals and their life too. The entire lifestyle should be vegetarian. If I talk so much about being vegetarian and wear a belt made of animal skin, then it seems like hypocrisy. Being vegan or vegetarian is not just a matter of food, but a complete lifestyle. Still, I will try to live a completely vegetarian life someday. My favorite animal is elephant, especially I love watching videos of baby elephants. The little elephant gets scared and hides behind its mother, it looks so cute. There is also a dog at home, which I like very much. I follow my diet according to my role. I follow my diet according to my role, but sometimes I do it in a slightly unhealthy way. I had to lose 6-7 kg of weight for the film Homebound. I felt that 6 kilos would be enough to look good on-screen. But I did too little. Became more harsh on myself. Before that there was shooting in UK. I found it difficult to manage my diet there because things were different. So I started giving a lot of gap in my meals. Sometimes I push myself too much in an unhealthy way, which is wrong. It is wrong to spend 6-7 hours eating only fruits. Unhealthy means not eating for so many hours, it is not good for your body. If you want to become lean or skinny, there is a right way for this too. You can eat such things which do not cause any harm to the body, provide good nutrition and at the same time get the desired body shape. But don’t stop eating. Spend 6-6 hours or 7-7 hours eating only a few fruits. According to me this method is wrong. Among fruits, I used to eat apples and bananas willingly. Whatever it meant, I knew fruit wouldn’t add much weight. That’s why I considered fruits as my safe option. He used to eat one or two meals, that is, he definitely ate two meals. I gain weight with protein shakes. Whenever I want to gain weight, I eat cheese and drink some shakes. He used to add banana, peanut butter, protein shake, protein powder to the shake. I take milk or sometimes almond milk. This makes a good protein shake. It helps a lot in my weight gain. I am not crazy about the gym, whenever I am free, I go to the gym. But I am not so crazy that I have to go to the gym every day without skipping a beat. I am a motivated person. If for a film it is said that I have to make such a body in two-three months, then I will give full time. But if I am asked to spare two hours in the morning even in my hectic schedule, then brother, I will find it very difficult. I don’t have that much discipline. Followed a heavy diet during the film ‘Mardaani 2’. My diet was very strict and heavy during the film ‘Mardaani 2’. I even once ate 18 eggs in several days, which was a big deal for me. He used to eat cheese, lots of fruits and 3-4 big rotis, then vegetables, pulses and rice. Used to drink three and a half to four protein shakes a day. Used to drink milk at night. In this way I followed a very heavy and proper diet. At that time I was able to gain a decent amount of weight. I have always been thin all my life. It is not easy for me to gain weight. My metabolism is very fast. In the initial days, quality food was not available on the sets. In the initial days, where I used to work on the sets, quality food was not available. Good food on the sets seems very important, because after all we work only to eat. Now you can order everywhere and set food has also become better. But initially wherever I used to go, there was not even basic quality food, which is the most important thing. During the days of struggle, there was a different pleasure in eating Bhel. Earlier, I used to travel by train and bus. While returning home after giving auditions, he did not eat anything. I thought it would be fun to eat Bhel worth ₹5-7 when I come back, now that the work is done. I deserve it. Would buy Sukhi Bhel at Andheri station, eat it while sitting alone in the train, listening to songs. It was a different fun when there was no one around. Those memories are still fresh. ——————————————————– Also read this news of Star Ki Thali… Star Ki Thali with Tridha Choudhary: Said- Street food is my favourite, lose weight by quitting carbs for 7 days, no need to get thin by taking injections.
