What happened in Tiananmen Square in 1989?

After this the Chinese army used force against the protesters and crushed the demonstration. Army and tanks were used in the action.
There is no definite figure as to how many people died in this incident. The Chinese government had said that more than 200 people had died. At the same time, in different foreign sources and estimates, the number of dead has been stated to range from hundreds to thousands.

After Tiananmen, Jiang Zemin becomes China’s top leader

Zhao Ziyang was considered to have a soft stance towards the protesters. For this reason he was removed from the post. After this, Jiang Zemin rapidly rose to the top leadership of the party.
By 1993, Jiang had become one of China’s most powerful leaders. He was the President of China from 1993 to 2002. He died on 30 November 2022 at the age of 96.
In China, Jiang Zemin, who led the country from the late 1980s to the early 2000s, was remembered on the 100th anniversary of his birth.
Jiang opened China’s economy to the world

Top leaders of China were present in the program organized on the 100th birth anniversary of Jiang Zemin. All seven members of China’s most powerful Politburo Standing Committee attended the program.
