Bangladesh Cricket Board President Tamim Iqbal on Thursday announced increase in the match fees of the players. This decision has been taken for all formats of domestic cricket.
The board has taken this step in view of the increasing financial insecurity among the players due to the postponement of the next season of Bangladesh Premier League. After this increase, now domestic cricketers of Bangladesh will be able to earn up to 30 to 35 lakh Bangladeshi Taka annually.
BPL is the only franchise based T-20 tournament in the country. The league has had to be postponed indefinitely due to huge financial losses, administrative disarray and a strict boycott by the players.
Increase in fees of male players
After the working committee meeting at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, BCB President Tamim Iqbal announced the increase in match fees in a press conference. Under the new arrangement, the fee for men’s first-class match has been increased from 70 thousand to 1.5 lakh Bangladeshi Taka.
Similarly, the fee for List-A (ODI) matches has been increased from 50 thousand to 1 lakh taka and the fee for domestic T-20 matches has been increased from 40 thousand to 80 thousand taka. The board has taken this step to remove the financial insecurity created among the players due to the postponement of BPL.

Fees for female players also double
- The fee for women’s four-day match has been increased from 20 thousand to 40 thousand taka. The fee for ODI match has been increased from 15 thousand to 30 thousand taka.
- The fees for women’s T-20 matches have also been doubled. Now players will get 20 thousand taka instead of 10 thousand.
Tamim said- players and board are same side
After the working committee meeting in Mirpur, Tamim said that the board and the players are not different, but the same party. He clarified that only 60-70 local players play in BPL, whereas domestic cricket supports the livelihood of 150 to 200 players.
Tamim said that ‘absence of BPL and decline in Dhaka League can have a financial impact on the players. Therefore, the board has come up with a long-term solution, not just for one year, so that players can remain financially stable by earning an average of Taka 3 lakh every month.
Claim of earning 35 to 40 lakh taka annually in the entire season
Tamim Iqbal said that after more than 100% increase in fees, if a player plays the entire season including salary, his annual earning will be 35 to 40 lakh Taka. If this amount is divided over 12 months, the monthly income becomes more than 3 lakh taka.
Tamim said that now players will not have to worry financially to run their families. This is a historic and important step of the board. In return, the board now expects completely professional attitude from the players in matters of field and discipline.
Board will not accept demands of players who fail fitness test
Tamim Iqbal made it clear that the board is fulfilling the demands of the players, so now there will be no compromise on professionalism. The Board will not consider any demands or requests from players who do not pass the mandatory pre-season fitness test. In exchange for financial help, the fitness and attitude of the players will now be strictly monitored.
BCB’s new commercial model for domestic tournaments
- To reduce the financial burden, BCB is planning to sell the National Cricket League (NCL) T20, Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) four-day and ODI tournaments as a commercial package.
- Under this new model, there will be 6-6 teams with private owners in all three competitions, for which a window of 60 days will be fixed.
- The traditional eight-team NCL four-day championship will continue in its current divisional format.
- Along with this, to give opportunity to new players and backup strength, the 3-day NCL Second XI competition will also be continued without any changes.
