Turki President Recep Taip Erdogan raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in UNGA on 23 September.

Turki President Recep Taip Erdogan on Tuesday raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in his speech in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Tuesday. He advocated resolving the Kashmir issue through talks between India and Pakistan.

Erdogan said, “We are happy that there was a ceasefire after tension between India and Pakistan in April. For our brothers and sisters of Kashmir, the issue should be resolved with the help of the UN Security Council.”

India has rejected such comments before. India says, “Jammu and Kashmir is our internal matter.” Erdogan has been referring to Kashmir in UN every year (except 2024) since 2019, in which he shows his support towards Pakistan.

Turkas supported Pakistan during Indo-Pak struggle

Erdogan spoke to Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on the Kashmir issue on May 17, 2025 after the Indo-Pak struggle. He openly supported Pakistan. Erdogan had said that he would try every possible effort to resolve the Kashmir issue.

He also sent drones-hostels to Pakistan and trend people running them for use against India. Erdogan had said that if both countries are ready, they will play a role in Kashmir case. We want peace, we do not want any stress between two neighbors.

At the same, she met Shahbaz Sharif and Erdogan on 24 May 2025 in Istanbul. During this, Erdogan had said that Pakistan was supported in intelligence, technological support, energy, transport and defense sectors.

The PAK Prime Minister and the Turki President met in Istanbul on 24 May 2025.

India said- Jammu and Kashmir our integral part

Erdogan’s India had strongly objected to the comment. Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal had said, “Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. No other country has any right to comment on it.

He said, “Instead of commenting on the internal affairs of a country, it would have been good that it would talk about stopping terrorism across the border, which remains the biggest threat to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Condemned Israeli attacks in Gaza

Apart from Kashmir, Erdogan in his speech condemned the attack in Gaza, Israel.

He described it as ‘the elimination of life’. He said, “A child has been dying every hour in Gaza for 23 months. These are not just figures, innocent people.”

Erdogan appealed to the world to stand in support of Palestine and recognize it. Erdogan also criticized the attacks on countries such as Syria, Iran, Yemen, Lebanon and Qatar of Israel, where Hamas leaders were targeted. However, he said that these attacks failed in their cause.
