US President Donald Trump joked about his press secretary Carolyn Levitt stepping down.
He said, “I have discovered that Caroline Levitt likes her children more than she likes me. I am very concerned about this.” Trump also said that replacing Levitt would not be easy.
Levitt will leave her job as White House press secretary at the end of August. He has taken this decision to spend more time with his two young children.
Trump asked Fox News reporter- Will you replace him?
It has not been announced yet who will be the next press secretary after Levitt’s departure. Fox News reporter Alexis McAdams asked Trump about this.
Trump looked at McAdams and said, “You?” Then he asked, “Why don’t you take his place?”
Trump praised McAdams and said that she can do this job well. However, he did not clarify whether he was actually considering making her the next press secretary or it was just a joke.
Why did Levitt leave the job?
Levitt announced his resignation this week. She said that she wants to give more time to her family and two young children.
She gave birth to her second child on 1 May 2026. After this she went on maternity leave and returned to the press briefing on 16 July.
Trump has supported his decision. He has said that even after leaving the White House, Levitt will remain associated with his team and will work as an external advisor.
Levitt shared the child’s picture on social media two weeks after his birth.
Why would it be difficult to replace Levitt?
Levitt was the main media face of the Trump administration for nearly 20 months. In press briefings, she defended Trump’s policies and decisions and presented the administration’s side on difficult questions.
After his departure, the White House will have to find a face who can answer the questions of journalists daily and can strongly put forward the policies of the Trump administration. At present the name of his successor has not been announced.
Speculations also surfaced regarding resignation
After Levitt stepped down, some people on social media tried to link his decision to a security incident involving Trump in the Turkish capital Ankara in July.
The Iranian Embassy in South Africa claimed that Trump was moved from one plane to another due to a security threat and Levitt was left behind.
The White House rejected this claim and said that Levitt was not on that plane. Trump also said that security officials had advised changing the plane because of the potential threat related to Iran.
Levitt has said that the reason for his leaving the post is his family. The White House has not yet announced the name of the new press secretary to replace him.
