Delhi’s special NIA court has fixed November 16 for arguments on charges in the case of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana. Special NIA judge Prashant Sharma heard the case on Thursday. The court took this decision after examining the supplementary charge sheet filed after Rana’s arrest and the documents related to the earlier charge sheet of NIA. Currently Rana is lodged in Tihar jail. Rana was brought to India from America on 10 April 2025. Tahawwur Rana was arrested by the FBI in October 2009 in Chicago, USA. He was accused of providing necessary materials to carry out terrorist attacks on 26/11 in Mumbai and Copenhagen. Tahawwur Rana was sentenced to 14 years in prison based on the testimony of Mumbai attack mastermind David Headley. The court had given permission to talk to the daughter on phone. Earlier, lawyer Piyush Sachdeva was given to Rana for legal assistance. However, Rana expressed his desire to be represented by a lawyer of his choice, following which Sachdeva was removed from the case. Earlier on July 30, the special NIA court located in Patiala House complex had allowed Rana to talk to his daughter on phone. Rana had sought permission to talk to his daughter and wife on phone. Tahawwur Rana is a businessman of Pakistani origin. 64 year old Tahawwur Rana is a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin. He is accused of helping Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley. Headley is one of the main conspirators of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Tahawwur Hussain worked as a doctor in the Pakistani Army. After this, he went to Canada in 1997 and started working there as a businessman providing immigration services. From here he reached America and opened a consultancy firm named First World Immigration Services in many locations including Chicago. According to US court documents, Rana had also visited Canada, Pakistan, Germany and England several times. He can speak about 7 languages. In 2011, India’s NIA filed a charge sheet against Rana. In 2011 itself, India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a charge sheet against 9 people including Rana for planning and executing the Mumbai terrorist attack. In the 400-page charge sheet presented by the Mumbai Police in 2023, the police wrote that Rana entered India on 11 November 2008 and stayed here till 21 November.
