The US Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday made public a large batch of documents in the case related to Jeffrey Epstein, convicted of sexual crimes in America. Nearly 30,000 pages of documents and dozens of video clips related to the Epstein investigation have been released. In these, the name of US President Donald Trump has come up in connection with the flight records of Epstein’s private jet. However, authorities have not accused Trump of any criminal involvement.
A large amount of confidential information has been blacked out (redacted) in the files released by the Justice Department. Many of these videos were reportedly shot inside the jail. It is noteworthy that Jeffrey Epstein died under suspicious circumstances in a New York jail in 2019, which was officially declared a suicide.
Trump’s name on 8 flights
An email included in the documents, dated January 7, 2020, claims that donald trump Had traveled on Epstein’s private jet at least 8 times between 1993 and 1996. The email was sent under the subject line “RE: Epstein flight records.” Although the names of the sender and recipient of the email have been kept confidential, it contains a reference to an Assistant US Attorney of the Southern District of New York.
According to the email, on board four of these flights was Ghislaine Maxwell, believed to be Epstein’s girlfriend who was later convicted of human trafficking. The document also states that on some trips, Trump was also traveling with his then wife Marla Maples, daughter Tiffany Trump and son Eric Trump.
Referring specifically to one flight, it has been said that on a 1993 flight, Trump and Epstein were the only passengers, while on another flight, Epstein, Trump and a 20-year-old man (name withheld) were recorded. Some women on two other flights could potentially have been witnesses in the Maxwell case.
Justice Department clarification
Minutes after the documents were released, the Justice Department issued a clarification on social media platform The department said these claims were submitted to the FBI just before the 2020 presidential election.
The Justice Department said in clear words, “These claims are baseless and false. If there was any truth in them, they would have been used as a weapon against President Trump by now.”
Documents are being issued under the new law
This documentary disclosure has come at a time when under a new transparency law recently passed by Congress, it is mandatory to make public all the files related to Epstein. However, Trump had earlier made efforts to keep these files sealed.
The files released earlier on Friday and Saturday were also heavily redacted, which caused resentment, especially within the Republican Party. Those files also included never-before-seen photos of former President Bill Clinton with Epstein and details of a 1996 criminal complaint.
On Monday, while talking to the media, Trump had said that these files are being used to divert attention from the so-called success of him and his party.
