The case was heard by a bench of Delhi High Court’s Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao. The bench said that financial constraints should not become a hindrance in the midst of important issues. Do not feel helpless while taking action effectively.

The court directed to appoint necessary resources and staff to deal with the emergency situation. Also, asked to file a new status report in the case by August 12. At the same time, the Social Welfare Secretary told the court that he will personally look into the matter.

More patients admitted in shelter home than capacity
National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma had alleged that the capacity of Asha Kiran Shelter Home is 250, while 450 people are admitted there. They are not getting proper food, water and treatment. Atishi should be held responsible for providing dirty water to the patients.

According to a TOI report, this shelter home built in 1989 has the capacity to admit 500 people, but 1000 people are admitted here. There are only 6 doctors and 17 nurses here for their treatment. The shelter home has 10 dormitories each for men and women.

There are different claims about the number of deaths. According to a report by India Today, 27 children have died in the shelter home since January. The deaths in the shelter home have been revealed in an investigation by the Sub Divisional Magistrate.

However, the Delhi government has said that there have been 14 deaths in the shelter home since January. The real cause of the deaths is not yet known. According to media reports, the people who died had similar symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting.

According to the data of Asha Kiran Medical Care Center, 2-3 deaths are occurring every month since January 2024, but this figure increased rapidly in July.
