India-US tariff tensions are back in focus after US President Donald Trump signed the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026. The legislation gives the US president authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on goods from countries that continue to buy Russian oil and gas, potentially affecting major buyers such as India and China. However, the law does not automatically impose a 100% tariff on India.India has now responded firmly. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said New Delhi does not operate under pressure from any nation and described the tariffs as “unfair.” He stressed that India’s priority is the welfare of its people and that energy security remains a primary concern. Singh said India will source energy from commercially viable and economical sources based on its own interests. n18oc_world n18oc_breaking-news CNN-News18 is your trusted source for breaking news, updates, and in-depth analysis from around the world.
