Delhi High Court has sought response from the producer on Salman Khan’s petition to ban the film ‘Black Deer: The Battle for Legacy’. Justice Jyoti Singh directed producer Amit Jani’s lawyer to file a reply within two weeks. Salman Khan has demanded a ban on the release of the film. The film is reportedly inspired by the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. In the hearing held on September 10, the Delhi High Court asked the lawyer appearing for the filmmakers when the film would be released, however in response the lawyer said that the film is not ready for release yet. Its content is yet to get certificate from the censor board. Senior lawyer Ravi Prakash, appearing for Salman, said on this, “He himself is saying that it is going to be released in September.” On this the court said that he should tell the release date of the film within 2 weeks. The next hearing of the case will be on September 30. Salman’s lawyer also raised objection on OTT release. During the hearing, Salman Khan’s lawyer said that the makers do not need any certification to release the film on OTT. The court also took this matter on record. Salman’s lawyer said, “Suppose the film is released, it will cause huge loss.” Salman had earlier also filed a case. Salman Khan had earlier filed a ‘Personality Rights’ case against many unknown people i.e. John Doe. In the petition, he said that the appearance of the person shown in the film Black Deer has been inspired by him, which is against his personality rights. He had demanded a ban on the release of the film. Last year, the High Court had heard Salman’s ‘Personality Rights’ case. The court had banned the production of merchandise using his photograph and likeness without permission. In July, the High Court had ordered the makers to remove many links related to the teaser of the film. Know what is the whole controversy related to the film? On July 27, Delhi High Court has given instructions to remove the teaser of the film ‘Black Deer: The Battle for Legacy’ from social media. The court clarified that if the producers do not remove the teaser links within 24 hours, then internet companies like Twitter and YouTube will be ordered to remove it. During the hearing of the case, Justice Jyoti Singh expressed strong displeasure over the attitude of the film’s producer Amit Jani. The court said that the accused is crossing his limits every day and considers himself above the law. The judge remarked that even an ordinary citizen cannot be treated like this. It takes a lot of hard work to build a reputation and once it is damaged, it is not easy to get it back. The court had also directed to delete the interview given by film producer Amit Jani. During the hearing, the court, while making oral remarks, had said that it is necessary to protect the reputation of a person. The court had also expressed concern over references to the actor appearing in the film. Makers of the film Kala Hiran reached the Supreme Court. Film producer Amit Jani has appealed in the Supreme Court against the order of Delhi High Court to remove the teaser of his film ‘Black Hiran: The Battle for Legacy’. Jani has said in his appeal that this order is unfair censorship and limits his right to freedom of expression. He says that no one can have a monopoly on public records and historical legal cases. Amidst the legal dispute, concerns have also come to light regarding the safety of the filmmaker. Jani claims that organized criminal groups have issued death threats to him and his family. These groups have demanded him to leave the film project. Jani said in the appeal that the High Court issued the stay order without giving his legal team a proper opportunity to present its case.
