After a video showing children eating lunch on newspaper in a government primary school in Madhya Pradesh’s Sheopur district went viral, the administration has swung into action. Following severe criticism, including comments from Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, the school has now been provided with steel plates.
Officer and leader ate food with children
After the incident, BJP leader and former Minister of State Ramniwas Rawat and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Abhishek Mishra reached this school located in Hulapur village of Vijaypur block on Saturday. He had lunch sitting with the students.
A new video posted on social media showed the school premises being clean, with children happily eating their meals in brand new stainless steel plates.
SDM Mishra told reporters, “Today, our entire team visited the spot and inspected the food. It was found that the food was served properly in plates. I myself had food there along with public representatives.” He assured that this matter is being monitored so that no such incident happens again in future.

Officials said that the video of food being served on newspaper had gone viral on Tuesday. After this, the administration on Friday canceled the contract of the self-help group responsible for preparing the food and this responsibility has been handed over to the school management committee.
Officials also said that school in-charge Bhogiram Dhakad has been suspended, while show cause notices have been issued to two other employees.
Rahul Gandhi targeted the government
Regarding this matter, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday shared an old video of children eating on newspaper on ‘X’. He said that the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister should feel ashamed for keeping the future of the country in such a pathetic condition.
He alleged that the ruling BJP’s “development” is just an illusion, and the party’s real secret to coming to power is its “system”. Gandhi said in his post, “These are the same innocent children on whom the future of the country depends and they are not even getting a plate of respect.”
