Thailand, meanwhile, have already shown that they can put up a fight. They began their campaign with a six-run win over Hong Kong, defending 120 for nine. Captain Naruemol Chaiwai led the way with 43, while Onnicha Kamchomphu and Phannita Maya made an impact with the ball.
India will start as clear favourites, but Thailand’s disciplined performance against Hong Kong suggests they cannot afford to be complacent.
