Nila Vikhe Patil, the daughter of Maharashtra educationist Ashok Vikhe Patil, has been elected to the Swedish Parliament from the Stockholm City constituency following the country’s national election held on September 13. She is set to become one of the 349 members of the Riksdag.

“It feels nice to be a part of the 349-member Parliament. I am looking forward to contributing to the city and the country,” Nila told PTI after her election.

Who Is Nila Vikhe Patil?

Nila is the daughter of Maharashtra educationist Ashok Vikhe Patil, chairman of the Vikhe Patil Foundation, and comes from the prominent Vikhe Patil family of Maharashtra. She is the granddaughter of the late Union minister Balasaheb Vikhe Patil and great-granddaughter of Vithalrao Vikhe Patil, who founded Asia’s first co-operative sugar factory. Maharashtra minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil is her uncle.

Born in Sweden, Nila spent her early years in Ahmednagar and has maintained close ties with India. She has been associated with Sweden’s Green Party for around 25 years and is also a member of the Stockholm Green Party’s Election Committee.

Before entering the Swedish Parliament, Nila served as a political adviser in the Swedish Prime Minister’s Office during the Stefan Lofven administration, where she worked on issues including finance, taxes and housing. She was also a member of the Stockholm Municipal Council.

Nila has worked with PwC since 2020 and became an authorised public accountant in April 2025. She holds a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the Gothenburg School of Business and also studied at the University of Complutense in Madrid.

Speaking about her priorities, Nila said, “I would like to be voice for those who cannot vote.” She added, “I want to contribute to a society where every child gets a chance for a good future. We need a habitable planet with clean water, living nature and as few human-caused natural disasters as possible.”
