Days after Midterm poll results, US President Donald Trump on Sunday vowed to return stronger after his Republican Party suffered a major setback in the recently conducted elections, describing the outcome as a “giant step back in history” for the country.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Sunday, Trump sought to reassure his supporters that the setback would not be the end of his political fight. “But have no fear, we will be back, BIGGER AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!” he wrote.

The remarks came after Democrats captured both chambers of Congress in last Tuesday’s midterm elections. The results marked historic losses for the Republican Party in states where it had maintained dominance for decades.

Here are five things to know about Trump’s response and the political developments following the election.

1. Trump Calls Election Result A Setback For US

Reacting to the results, Trump said the country had moved backwards because of the election outcome.

“America took a giant step back in History with the results of the last Election,” he wrote on Truth Social.

The US President also referred to the stock market, claiming that it had suffered losses following the vote after recording growth during his tenure.

Despite the setback, Trump insisted that his party would recover and return stronger.

2. Democrats Capture Both Chambers Of Congress

Democrats secured control of both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections, dealing a major blow to Trump’s Republican Party.

The losses were particularly significant in states where Republicans had enjoyed dominance for decades. The outcome has also set the stage for a political confrontation between the Democratic-controlled Congress and the Trump administration.

3. Trump Signals A Defiant Comeback

While Republican lawmakers have been dealing with the fallout of the election defeat, Trump has maintained a defiant tone.

His Truth Social message indicated that he was not prepared to accept the results as the end of his political momentum. By promising to return “bigger and stronger”, he sought to project confidence despite the party’s losses.

4. Stephen Miller Appointed Chief Of Staff

Trump appointed his hardline adviser Stephen Miller as his new chief of staff on Friday, signalling a tougher approach in the aftermath of the election setback.

Miller is known as the architect of Trump’s strict immigration policy. His appointment comes as the administration faces the prospect of sustained opposition from Democrats in Congress.

5. Democrats Promise To Challenge Miller

Democrats have vowed to hold the Trump administration accountable and oppose Miller’s role in the government. They have promised to fight “every step of the way” against him, setting up a potential confrontation over the administration’s policies, particularly immigration.
