Roku’s holiday romantic comedy, Second Chance Holiday, starring Ayesha Curry, premieres on November 5. On Tuesday, October 27, it was announced that she will make her feature film debut in a lead role. Roku released the news through a trailer posted to social media. The channel made the announcement about the film in July with Curry, the wife of Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, as the star. Yet, the trailer and release date were unavailable until Tuesday.
Ayesha Curry Shares a Playful Preview of Second Chance Holiday on Instagram
Ayesha Curry will be starring alongside Matthew Daddario, the brother of movie star Alexandra Daddario, in a new holiday special movie.
“It’s an honor to be part of Second Chance Holiday alongside such a talented cast and crew,” Curry said in a July statement. “There’s something truly magical about holiday rom-coms. They invite you into these charming, cozy worlds where anything feels possible. Chelsey is such a fun, heartfelt character that I fell in love with while bringing her to life. I hope audiences fall in love with her too and enjoy Second Chance Holiday this holiday season.”
Curry shared a video of a scene from the movie on her Instagram Story, featuring a happy Christmas elf donned in a green and red outfit, with a white fluffy collar and Santa’s hat. The clip begins with the elf saying “Hi there, grown-up lady,” with Curry adding a fun caption on Instagram reading,
“Have you watched yet?! The whole family can watch! So get your popcorn, candy, WINE. And enjoy! @therokuchannel”
The film portrays Curry, who works as a love guru keen to lift a “jinx” of being dumped every year at this time around. She is finally back with her childhood boyfriend played by Daddario and is in a dilemma about whether it’s fate sending her back to her first love. Other co-stars of the film include Matthew Daddario playing the role of Matty Banks, one of Chelsey’s first boyfriends, and Dennis Andres, while Marissa Bondi also plays an important character.The film portrays Chelsey, who returns home for Christmas despite all her previous breakups. Upon returning home, she finds Matty, who is also her high school love, and she starts to reevaluate her relationship with him.
Ayesha Curry’s Acting Career Beyond Second Chance Holiday
Ayesha Curry has acted in other films prior to this, starting her acting career with minor roles in television shows such as Hannah Montana and Good Luck Charlie on the Disney Channel. She played a role in HBO’s Ballers, and after being away from acting due to her culinary work, she returned to acting in 2024 with Irish Wish and Joy to the World on Netflix and Hulu, respectively.
Her last role was in the animated film GOAT produced by Sony Pictures Animation, and she voiced the character of Carol with her husband Stephen. Ayesha is not just an actress, but she is also a television host, has her own cooking show, Ayesha’s Homemade, and has authored a cookbook titled Sweet July.
