So far, 10 people have died due to drinking contaminated water in Indore, the cleanest city of the country, while 212 people are admitted in various hospitals. Of these, 50 patients have been discharged after treatment. This incident took place in Bhagirathpura area of Indore, which falls in Indore-1, the assembly constituency of Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya.
Minister loses his temper on media question
On Wednesday, when NDTV questioned Minister Vijayvargiya on the serious issue of why the drinking water system in the affected area was not improved and why the bills of private hospitals were not paid, the Minister lost his temper in front of the camera and said – “Leave it friend, don’t ask unnecessary questions.” After this there was an argument between the NDTV correspondent and the minister, in which Vijayvargiya used objectionable words. After this video went viral on social media, the minister had to face criticism.
Apology on social media
As the controversy escalated, Vijayvargiya issued a statement on social media expressing regret. He wrote – “I and my team have been working without sleep for the last two days to improve the situation in the affected area. My people are suffering due to contaminated water and some have left us. In this state of deep grief, my words came out wrong on a question from the media. For this I apologize, but I will not rest until my people are completely safe and healthy.”
Government action on the situation
After the outbreak of diarrhea in Bhagirathpura area, the administration has started checking the water supply. Medical teams have been deployed in the affected areas and alternative arrangements for drinking water are being made.
