The Chennai Open 2026 women’s singles final featuring top seed Janice Tjen of Indonesia and third seed Magda Linette of Poland was rescheduled for Monday following weather-related disruptions.
Rain began shortly after the conclusion of the women’s doubles final, while thick smoke later spread across the SDAT stadium, raising visibility concerns.
The singles championship match was originally scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm IST.
Although the doubles final was completed without any interruptions, the singles showdown faced repeated delays as rain affected proceedings.
Once the weather cleared, organisers planned to begin the match at 9 pm IST.
However, reports of heavy smog at the venue and the resulting visibility issues led to another postponement.
The WTA subsequently confirmed that the final would be held on Monday, November 9, starting at 11 am IST.
“Due to unforeseen weather conditions, the Women’s Singles Final between Janice Tjen and Magda Linette has been postponed. The match will now take place tomorrow (November 9, 2026) at 11 a.m,” WTA said in a statement.
Weather interruptions have been a recurring issue at this year’s tournament, with rain also washing out the entire opening day.
Indian Doubles Pair Fall Short in Chennai Open Final
Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale were unable to overcome the challenge posed by their Swiss opponents, who dominated the contest to claim the doubles crown.
Vaishnavi and Rutuja ended their campaign as runners-up in the WTA 250 tournament after suffering a 2-6, 0-6 defeat against Switzerland’s Simona Waltert and Naima Karamoko.
Karamoko proved particularly effective around the net, while Waltert complemented her partner’s performance with consistent play from the baseline. Their combined effort ensured a comfortable victory in straight sets.
The Indian pair’s run to the final marked an important achievement for Indian women’s tennis, as they became the first all-Indian women’s doubles combination to reach a WTA Tour-level final.
