Trouble For Pakistan As TTP Reveals New Organisation Setup, Air Force Ops For 2026

The TTP, behind several attacks on Army and security personnel in Pakistan, announced a new organisational structure that includes new zones and air force operations.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has announced a new organisational structure for 2026, including plans for an “Air Force” unit, signalling an intent to escalate hostilities against Islamabad, sources told CNN-News18.

The structure details TTP’s military units, deployments in different provinces, and the organisational frameworks of various departments. The creation of a new air force shows the TTP’s escalation in intent, propaganda and threat to Pakistan, sources told CNN-News18.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terror activities, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, after the TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022 and launched a series of attacks on security forces, police, and law enforcement personnel.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), referred to as ‘Fitna-al-Khawarij’ by the Pakistani state, is a banned group. Pakistan has accused TTP of operating from Afghan territory, a claim denied by the Taliban government. It remains one of Pakistan’s most serious internal security threats.

Major Changes Announced By TTP

New Supervision Zones: The TTP announced the formation of two new zones to manage the shadow provinces, namely the Western Zone (Balochistan) and the Central Zone. Both zones have their respective overall military commanders.

Shadow Provinces: New provinces have been added to TTP’s administrative control, including the Kashmir province and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Military Zone Leadership: The leadership of all military zones has undergone a change. Notably, Ehsanullah Ipi, the great-grandson of Faqir Ipi, has been appointed as Head of the Southern Military Zone. Faqir Ipi joined TTP in March 2022. The new military zones feature Hilal Ghazi as deputy head of Central Military Zone.

Major Appointments: Moreover, Azmatullah Mehsud has replaced Maulvi Faqir Muhammad as leader of the Political Commission. Maulvi Faqir will remain a member of the commission, while Sarbakaf Mohmand is not present anymore.

Air Force Ops: The TTP has announced the creation of its Air Force operating under the leadership of Saleem Haqqani.
