News Headlines for School Assembly, November 28th: From Bangladesh court sentencing former PM Sheikh Hasina to 21 years in prison to Delhi’s air quality plunging into the “very poor” category yet again, here are the top news highlights for November 28th.

Top National News:

– Hours after GRAP III anti-pollution measures were withdrawn in the national capital, Delhi’s air quality plunged into the “very poor” category with an AQI jump of 50 points from 327 to 377.

– The Assam government officially declared polygamy unlawful on Thursday, passing the Assam Prohibition of Polygamy Bill, 2025, in the state Legislative Assembly.

Top International News:

– A court in Bangladesh sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to a total of 21 years in prison on Thursday after convicting her in three separate corruption cases.

– New videos emerged hours after the White House shooting, showing how US cops captured the Afghan man accused of shooting and injuring two National Security Guard members in Washington on Thursday.

Top Sports News:

– Indian shuttler Tanvi Sharma defeated former World Champion Nozomi Okuhara on Thursday at the Syed Modi International in Lucknow.

– The first-ever mega auction in Women’s Premier League (WPL) history took place on Thursday. The auction included 277 players, with 194 being Indians and 83 from overseas. There are 73 available slots, including 23 for overseas players, across the franchises. Each franchise can form a squad consisting of 15 to 18 players.

Top Business News:

– After hitting a record high of 86,055.86, the BSE Sensex was at 85,984.88, up 375.37 points or 0.44 per cent. The NSE Nifty50 reached a high of 26,310.45 and was trading at 26,296.90, up 91.60 points or 0.35 per cent.

– India’s macroeconomic environment remains steady, supported by easing inflation, firm domestic demand, and sustained policy momentum, the finance ministry stated in its ‘Monthly Economic Review for October 2025’ released on November 27.
