Putin Thanks PM Modi For Strengthening India-Russia Ties, Promises To Increase Fertiliser Deliveries

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his role in strengthening India-Russia ties, while assuring that Moscow would continue increasing fertiliser supplies to meet the needs of Indian farmers.

During the meeting, Putin said bilateral trade between Russia and India had declined in 2025 but was now showing signs of recovery. He attributed the renewed momentum, in part, to Modi’s personal attention to the relationship between the two countries.

“This is due in no small part — perhaps above all — to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who personally pays close attention to the development of Russian-Indian relations,” Putin said.

Putin also asked Jaishankar to convey his “warmest regards” to Modi and said he hoped to meet the Prime Minister soon on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) events.

“I hope to see him soon, as planned, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation events. Given our schedules, we may well meet again later this year,” he said.

Putin Assures India On fertiliser Supplies

Putin said Russia is taking steps to ensure that Indian farmers and the country’s agriculture sector continued to receive adequate fertiliser supplies.

“One such issue concerns not only energy supplies but, of course, fertiliser deliveries. We are doing everything necessary to meet the needs of Indian farmers and agriculture, increasing these supplies and ready to continue doing so,” he said.

The Russian President said several other areas of bilateral cooperation were also progressing steadily.

“All other matters — including nuclear energy, cooperation in high-tech sectors and other areas — are also on the agenda, and all are making steady progress,” Putin said.

The meeting comes amid continued efforts by India and Russia to deepen economic and strategic cooperation, with energy, fertilisers, nuclear power and high-technology sectors remaining key areas of bilateral engagement.
