Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, sending the internet into a frenzy with a “Melody moment” featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has triggered a flood of reactions across social media platforms.

The viral clip, shared by Meloni on Instagram and X, showed Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifting her a packet of Melody toffees.

The video instantly revived the popular “Melodi” meme trend, a blend of PM Modi and Meloni’s names that has frequently surfaced online whenever the two leaders interact publicly.

In the clip posted by Meloni, the Italian leader could be seen smiling and laughing as PM Modi handed over the famous chocolate-caramel candy.

Sharing the video, Meloni wrote, “Thank you for the gift.”

Within minutes, users across X and Instagram flooded the comments section with jokes, memes and witty one-liners.

One user joked, “Diplomacy level: Melody.”

Another wrote, “This is the most wholesome geopolitical alliance on the internet.”

Several users also referred to the leaders as “the internet’s favourite duo”, while others praised the light-hearted exchange amid otherwise formal diplomatic meetings.

One viral comment read, “From G20 selfies to Melody toffees, this friendship has its own fandom now.”

Another comment read, “India-Italy relations powered by Melody.”

Instagram reels and meme pages also recreated the moment using Bollywood music and comic edits.

Some users even joked that the toffee company should immediately sign both leaders as brand ambassadors.

Despite the humour, many social media users appreciated the warmth and informality displayed during the interaction.

Several comments described the exchange as “refreshingly human” and “a reminder that diplomacy can also have cheerful moments”.

DINNER DIPLOMACY AND COLOSSEUM VISIT

The viral social media moment came during PM Modi’s visit to Italy as part of the final leg of his five-nation tour.

Meloni hosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for dinner shortly after he arrived in Rome and later accompanied him on a visit to the iconic Colosseum.

Sharing photographs from the meeting earlier, PM Modi had posted on X that the two leaders exchanged views on a wide range of subjects and looked forward to further discussions aimed at strengthening India-Italy ties.

Meloni also welcomed PM Modi warmly on social media, posting a picture with him and writing, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!”

The friendly interactions between the two leaders have repeatedly drawn attention online ever since their selfies and candid moments during global summits went viral.

INDIA-ITALY TIES IN FOCUS

Beyond the viral internet buzz, PM Modi’s visit to Italy also highlighted expanding cooperation between the two countries.

India and Italy are currently advancing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029 covering trade, defence, clean energy, technology and cultural exchanges.

During the visit, PM Modi also appreciated Italian painter Giampaolo Tomassetti for his artwork on Varanasi and his long association with Indian culture.
